INTRODUCTION TO STA

 

The Singapore Timber Association (STA) was started when 2 associations (Singapore Sawmillers Association (SSA) established in 1953 and Singapore Timber Exporters' Association (STEA) established in 1956) merged in year 2001. Today, the Singapore Timber Association (STA) has a good mix of our memberships which now encompasses Singapore timber industries from timber logs, sawn timber, finished timber products like timber doors, wood flooring, panels and wood furniture, timber pallets, timber services like klin drying, mouldings, sawmills and recycling.  Companies providing related products like glue and coatings are also joining into the association to share their latest products that can help timber industries.

 

MISSION OF SINGAPORE TIMBER ASSOCIATIONS

STA main objectives are to promote and maintain understanding and harmony among its members. Being the ONLY timber association in Singapore its aim is to co-operate and complement the government in the formulation and implementation of timber policies. The Association organizes seminars, trainings and meetings, it also monitor world markets for tropical timber and timber products for the benefits or members. STA will provides technical information support to members and work closely with government body to solve issues related to timber or wood industrial in Singapore.

Singapore Furniture Industries Council
(SFIC) was incorporated in 1981 to represent and promote the interest of the Singapore furniture industry. It currently represents 95% of the furniture manufacturers in Singapore, 60% of whom have subsidiary manufacturing plants in the region as well. SFIC plays a proactive role in the development of the Singapore furniture industry.

International Tropical Timber Organisation
(ITTO) was created by treaty in 1983 and its Headquarters was established in Yokohama, Japan in late 1986. The primary ideal is to provide an effective framework for consultation among producer and consumer member countries on all aspects of the world timber economy within its mandate.
